366 Artists In 366 Days : Day 41 Number 326 Anthony Newley

IMHO, Dame Bowie learnt a lot from this man...

366 Artists In 366 Days : Day 40 Number 327 The Masters Apprentices

On this day I give you one of Australia's finest psychedelic rock outfits.
Vocalist Jim Keays has just released a new solo album, Dirty Dirty.
You could do far worse things than purchase it...

366 Artists In 366 Days : Day 39 Number 328 Talking Heads

I saw Talking Heads perform here in Melbourne in January 1984. They shared the bill with (I think) Eurythmics. Or it might have been The Pretenders. I know those three bands plus Simple Minds did some sideshows in Melbourne, on their journey down under to perform at Narara Music Festival in NSW. Of course, they weren't called sideshows then. We knew them simply as 'concerts'...
Anyway, I saw all four shows with whichever combination of the artists mentioned above (my one surviving ticket stub is helpfully torn in half, leaving only the 'DS' plus 'The Pretenders' visible).
They were all great.
Met them all too. David Byrne remains one of the most boring people I've ever come in contact with.
Very talented, though...

366 Artists In 366 Days : Day 38 Number 329 Tiny Tim

There's not much I can say about Tiny Tim (or Herbert Khaury, as his mum knew him), but here are a few titbits...
  • In 1969 he married 'Miss Vicki' Mae Budinger, live on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show, with a viewing audience of more than 20 million
  • His early recordings were backed by a band who eventually became.. The Band
  • He appears on The Beatles' 1968 Christmas Record, with a rendition of 'Nowhere Man'
  • He died onstage in 1996, after suffering a massive heart attack, whilst performing at a Gala Benefit at the Women's Club of Minneapolis

Here he is making a guest appearance on Ironside...

366 Artists In 366 Days : Day 37 Number 330 The Lovin' Spoonful

The Lovin' Spoonful is one of several bands on this list, that is named after male ejaculation.
Allegedly.

And here is John Sebastian solo, with his US number one (and 24 in  Australia). From one of my favourite shows growing up, the theme tune to Welcome Back Kotter (R.I.P. Juan Epstein)...
